The first pediatric ward was opened in Arkhangelsk in 1928. It was created in the 1st city hospital of Arkhangelsk. In the department received medical treatment 45 patients daily. In 1935 it was created chair of Pediatrics of the Arkhangelsk State Medical Institute. The chair was headed by Yurii Vasil'evich Makarov. Activities of the children's department in a public hospital is not consistent with the principles of pediatrics. It was necessary to create a specialized children's hospital. City Children's Hospital was founded in 1946. The period of formation and development of the pediatric hospital linked to the name of Marïa Maksimovna Shiryaeva. She worked as the chief physician in 1947-1961. In 1961-1972 the city children's hospital was headed Aleksandra Vasilevna Spasennikova. It describes the problems of creation of city children's hospital.
