The Department of General Surgery was founded in 1944 after the re-evacuation of the Kiev Medical Institute. In 1970, Professor V.A. Krizhanovsky had created a scientific school in surgical endocrinology, which is continued now by Professors V.A. Privalov and S.V. Sergiiko.
